Rust / Guide
Why can't I trade my Rust skin yet?
A missing sell button can have several causes. Check the skin's eligibility, its individual unlock notice and any Steam account restrictions separately.

- Rust PC and Steam inventory items. Check restrictions for the specific item and account.
Tradable and marketable are different
Tradable means an item may move to another user through Steam Trading. Marketable means it may be sold on the Steam Community Market. Valve defines these as separate properties. Being able to use a design in the game does not establish either permission.

Which restriction applies after a purchase?
Steam gives the trading unlock date in a purchased item's inventory description. Use that notice instead of counting from the design's release date. A purchase restriction concerns acquiring a copy, not the age of the skin.
What we verified about seven-day restrictions
On 19 September 2026, Steam's public market data reported seven-day trading and market restrictions for Wrecker Salvaged Icepick after a market purchase. This verified example is not an unlock guarantee for every Rust product. We have not established one current restriction covering all Item Store purchases; the store detail pages checked returned errors.

Separate item restrictions, account limits and holds
Account restrictions can block eligible skins; holds delay transfers. Steam requires 15 days of enabled Steam Guard for market access. That is an account condition, not each skin's restriction.
Twitch Drops are a different case
Facepunch identifies Rust Twitch Drops as account-bound: they cannot be traded or sold. Waiting therefore does not make such a drop marketable. Do not automatically apply that rule to designs acquired through other channels or to every store bundle.

What to check when a restriction ends
Open the specific copy in your Steam inventory and check its description again. Expiry alone does not create a sale listing or transfer the item. A trade still needs an offer and acceptance. A comparison price also does not verify the status of the copy in your inventory.

Common questions
Can I sell a Twitch Drop after a week?
No. Rust Twitch Drops as documented by Facepunch are account-bound.

Does the restriction start on the release date?
Do not infer your unlock from release day. Use the notice attached to your purchased copy.
Why is there a price when I cannot list my skin?
A design's price does not establish whether your copy is tradable or marketable. Check its inventory description.

Is my skin automatically transferred when the restriction expires?
No. A trade still requires an offer and acceptance by the other party.

What this guide does not establish
- No universal current Item Store restriction verified; store pages returned errors.
- Do not derive a personal unlock time from other listings or the design's release date.
- Do not apply CS2 Trade Protection rules to Rust.
Open means open. These points stand here instead of being replaced by a stronger wording nobody verified.
